Lluís Santaló Visiting Position

Lluís Santaló (Girona 1911, Buenos Aires 2001) did his most notorious mathematical research work in Integral Geometry, area of which he was a founder and one of the main contributors. He studied with Wilhelm Blaschke in Hamburg. He served the republican army during the Spanish civil war and emigrated to Argentina in 1939. After ten years in Rosario, he established himself in Buenos Aires, where he helped the development of mathematical research and became a reference for a whole generation of Argentinian mathematicians. He was also very committed with mathematical education and divulgation of mathematics in society.

In memory of Lluís Santaló, the CRM has created a visiting position bearing his name, specifically addressed to senior mathematical researchers affiliated to Latin American institutions, with the following characteristics:

• The position is offered for a stay of one to three months within the periods April to July 2010 or September to December 2010.
• The position includes free lodging, medical coverage and a monthly allowance of 1,200 euros.

Applicants are asked to send the information detailed in the Application Instructions by e-mail to crmcalls@crm.cat, together with a research project and a CV including a list of publications, before December 10, 2009.
