Health insurances

There are different types of Health Insurance plans for the CRM visitors. Those with a Government Grant will have a private insurance together with their benefits. Those with an European Union Grant will have a working contract with the CRM, and therefore as Spanish employees will have Social Security benefits which implies the national public health system.

Those visitants coming from countries from the European Union should check with their local medical services what documents should they bring to obtain medical care in Spain through the European agreement on health care.

For the rest of the visitors, there are three options:

  1. To bring their own health insurance, making sure that it will cover them outside their country. Some national health insurances offer coverage outside the country for an additional cost.
  2. To buy a private health insurance in Spain. It can cost between 40 and 60 euros per month per person. Some restrictions apply if you have a pre-condition and some procedures may not be available for the first months of the coverage. It is advisable only for long visits or to cover only occasional illnesses and/or accidents.
  3. To sign for the Spanish Public Health System. The Spanish Public Health System, which is free for all employees (it is actually paid for by the employers), and low-income people living in Spain, can be bought at the price of 83 € (per family and month). The insurance will cover all medical problems and procedures, new or old. Very basic dental care is available through that health plan.
